The introduction of the laboratory of high power laser optical components

  The Laboratory of high power laser optical components is mainly working on the research and development of laser glasses and special fibers. By the year of 2020, we have 105 staff members including 1 Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and 10 research professors, in which 5 are supervisors of Ph.D students. There are 41 graduate students who are pursuing master and Ph.D. degrees in our research center in 2020. Since 2002, more than 100 graduate students were graduated from our research center.

  The R&D center has 53 years history of laser glass and special glass researches. One kind of Nd:silicate laser glass and two kinds of Nd:phosphate laser glasses, N21 and N31 have been developed and applied in Shen Guang facilities in China. We have a professional team consisting of members from basic research, technique development and fabrication of special glasses and fibers. We are one of the three institutes in worldwide who are specialized in mass production of large size laser glasses. The products of our laser glasses and faraday rotator glasses are now widely used in laser facilities in China and abroad.

  The project entitled “Mass production technique and its application of large size high performance neodymium phosphate laser glass” has owned a super grade technique invention prize of Shanghai in 2016 and second prize of State Technological Invention Award in 2017.

  Since 2002, we have established the platform for special fiber researches. There are two research directions, one is laser fiber, another is microstructure nonlinear optical fiber. The research projects include large mode area PCF laser fiber, double cladding laser fiber, microstructure nonlinear optical fiber and mid-infrared transmission fiber.

  We publish around 40 scientific papers and apply about 10 patents each year. We own several key patents of neodymium laser glass fabrications and tens of issued patents concerning with special glasses and special fibers.
